In 2011, two high school students who had never met attended Mt. Adams Leadership Camp in Washington. These two were paired for a listening activity and were inseparable for the rest of the week. After camp, they went their separate ways; Victor went back to Marysville and Lauren went back to Wenatchee. They went to each other's homecoming dances that year and have been together ever since. The couple did long distance for two years while they were finishing up high school and for their first year of college (she was at Western Washington University and he was at University of Washington). They are finally living in the same place. Victor transferred to Western Washington University this year. Lauren told me she is grateful for their two years of long distance, because it forced them to perfect their communication and trust. These high school sweethearts made it work through two years of long distance during some of the trickest years of their lives. I was honored to photograph their love.
I met Lauren working at The Woods Coffee. We were both baristas and I adored her immediately. She is so sweet and such a hard worker. We bonded over the fact that both our boyfriends names are Victor and that was both awesome and confusing while we were working together.
I had such a blast during this session. These two love each other in a way I rarely see in people so young. It is clear to me that they do share an intimacy, trust, respect, and love for each other that is not typical among 19 year-olds.
